Sparks of brilliance

Sometimes I get frustrated with Korea.  Sometimes I get downright furious with Korea.  And then there are times where Korea really does things right.

Chargers.  Every phone (except the iphone of course) has the same charger.  Every place of business has a charger that they will let you use while you shop/eat/sleep.

저기요 button.  Many Korean restaurants have doorbells on the table.  When you need something, you ring the bell and the server comes over.  No more smothering servers or guilty feelings.

Toilets with bidets.   Never used a bidet until I came to Korea.  The first time was after a long night of sweating and dancing…. a bidet was a refreshing spritz to my lady-parts.

Service-uh.  When you buy things, you get extra things.  Sometimes I go into The Body Shop and buy something just because I like the free samples/handouts they give.  Face Shop?  I am a loyal customer of their face wipes, and they give out so many samples of toners and masks.   Buy some apples at the market and get a free orange thrown in there.   Oh, your cereal box?  It might have a free bowl taped to the outside.  Or maybe a squirt gun.

Jelly packets.  While it may seem banal, the clever and innovative design makes single-serving jelly mess-free and no silverware required.

You just fold and squeeze.

Elevator Canceling.   If you press the wrong floor, or if some annoying kid presses all the buttons (like Buddy the Elf or in Serendipity), just press the floor button again and it will turn off.  And it will not stop at that floor.  Simple.  Brilliant.

What are your favorite “sparks of brilliance” you have found in Korea?  Things that just make total sense?  Things that make you question why the whole world doesn’t have them?
